An American Tragedy

Theodore Dreiser wrote the novel AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY.  The novel is about Clyde Griffiths, the son of an itinerant street preacher, whose burning ambition for wealth and social prestige brings him nothing but tragedy.  In your opinion, what is the current "American tragedy?"  Explain.

  1. In my opinion, the current "American tragedy" is the poor economy that we have. Over the past few years, we have seen one of the worst economies in history since the Great Depression. Fortunately though, the economy is starting to improve and hopefully it continues that improvement. This "American tragedy" will not last long hopefully!

  2. To me the American tragedy would be people getting let go from jobs and not being able to find jobs. With this it would also be will money because all the people need jobs to get money and support their family's. So somehow everything bad in the current time will all fit in with each other, it just depends how you look at it
