Watch the short clip of a students alternate ending to the novel, OF MICE & MEN. Write an opinion on Open Office of at least a page explaining which ending you think is best, the original ending to the novel, the student alternate version, or one of your own. If you choose your own version, be sure to explain your version first. Extra credit points will be given for your own written alternate ending. Why do you consider the version you have chosen to be the best? Detail your opinion. Consider such elements as characterization, motivation, probability, and./or character interaction.

The alternate ending is definitely way 10 times 100 times more better. There is a way better and more exciting plot to it were more people die, and it is cool. Ill take it from the beginning and say why its better. First of George doesn't kill Lennie, better already. Instead he tries to save his life long friend. What a friend! They try to run away and start a new life like they had in the past. Curley is really mad about his wife, though , and doesnt want them to get away. He wants that giant fat retard murderer dead. So he continues to hunt them until he finally catches up to them. He takes his rifle out and shoot Lennie twice till he is dead. He is very happen with himself when he does. George then gets really really really mad and picks up a rifle and shoots Curley, since he never liked him in the first place. Then George realizes that his life will not be complete anymore. His best friend Lennie is dead and now he is going to be wanted as a murderer for killing Curley and life will never be the same. Realizing this he decides to kill himself. Kind of as his last stand and then maybe he can meet up with Lennie in heaven
ReplyDeleteI like the original ending of the movie. that way lennie can go in peace and never feel a thing. In the alternate ending there was violence. Although i do like the alternate ending for the fact that Curley gets it too. But with the original ending George can finally work on his own even though he would probably rather have been with lennie.
ReplyDeleteThe actual ending to “Of Mice and Men” is better than the ending the students had made. The students did do a pretty good job, however, it could use some improvements. A little more emotion and a different way of showing the ending would have been better. Having George kill Lennie seems bad, but having someone else like Curly does not seem right either. By George killing Lennie it is because George cares about him. In the student's version of it Curly kills Lennie, but George seeks his revenge for it right away by killing Curly. Having George kill Lennie himself seems a little less harsh then having some stranger do it out of rage and revenge. In the original George kills Lennie because it is the best thing to do. In the student's version Curly kills Lennie for revenge for him killing his wife. However, it does not quite make sense that Curly would do that because he had told his wife to leave. Although, it still does make sense because Curly still probably had feelings for her. If Curly would have killed Lennie in the original version it would have been a whole lot worse. Also, in the original Curly would have made Lennie's death slow and painful. George, however, made it so he would not even feel a thing. George killed Lennie because it really was the best thing to do. If they locked Lennie up he would not have been able to survive. Not to mention that George knows Lennie never meant to do anything bad, whereas Curly and all the other guys at the ranch did not know that. In the student's version it was hard to hear sometimes and they did not plan it out too well. It was not quite as convincing as it should have been. They did an okay job on expressing feelings and emotions most of the time, but there were still some bad spots. It seemed like it was taking a while for Lennie to die in theirs too. They let it go on and on and on, which can make people uninterested or tune out on what is going on. However, because Curly killed Lennie and George killed Curly right away makes the ending a little bit better. The original ending is the better out of the two. That ending just make sense and seems like the best way to end the story and movie. Any other ending will not be quite as good as the original. A thing that makes the original better is the fact that it is actual actors and not students, but the gist of the student's ending just is not that great. The idea of having Curly find them and having him kill Lennie is a good idea, but the original way seems to be better. The way the students had Lennie get shot was creative, but it seemed to take a little bit for Lennie to actually die. However, it did not seem very convincing. And having Lennie's death be slow and painful doesn't seem right. Having it get done and over with seems like a better way of having it done. The original ending seems to be the better way of ending it.
ReplyDeleteI liked the alternate ending the most! The alternate ending had more twists and surprises! The alternate ending also let us see what became of George compared to the novel where we know nothing of what happens to George after Lennie's death. It was also exciting to see Curley get shot because he was a villian that nobody liked. This ending was sader though because not only does Lennie, and Curley die, but George kills himself also. The alternate ending provided readers with a sense o fknowledge and closeure that they lacked in the novel. This ending was more schocking than the novel because we couldn't predict what would happen in the end, but we could in the novel. Overall I would pick to see the alternate ending before the novel's ending anyday!

I think that it would have been better if George and Lennie just took the gun and left the area so that they Lennie would still be alive. the only part i liked about the alternate ending was that curley died too because i dont like him.
